Q. What is domain name registration?

A. Domain name registration is the process of reserving a domain name (also referred to as a web site address) for your web site. Domain names are considered intellectual property. Ownership is given to whoever is listed as the registrant. The registrant may be either you or your company. Domain names must be renewed annually or they become available to the general public once again. BDI will automatically renew and bill you each year unless we receive notification at least 2 months in advance that you are choosing not to renew.

Q. How do I choose a domain name?

A. We recommend that you select a domain name that accurately reflects your business and is easy to remember. If you choose a domain name that involves another company’s name or a registered trademark, it may cause legal problems. Thus, BDI advises against choosing such domain names, like buy-ralph-lauren.com. Please note: All legal ramifications for a domain name rest with the client.     Back to Top

Q. What do the domain extensions of .com, .net, .biz, .name, and .info mean?

A.  .com - originally intended for use by commercial businesses; however, anyone may use this extension.
      .net – originally intended for use by Internet Service Providers (ISPs); however, anyone may use this extension.
      .biz – only businesses may use this extension.
      .name – this extension is reserved for individuals only
      .info – this extension is for sites about you, your organisation, or your products
      .org – anyone can register .org extensions, but it was intended for and is usually used by non-profit organisations.

Q. Can BDI create a custom designed web site for me?

A. Yes, BDI does create custom designed web sites. Cotton Bay Hotel, Phydra Mauritius, and XAMM Pest Control are all examples of custom designed sites we have created. However, BDI does not take custom designed contracts under Rs 10,000. If this is greater than your budget allows, please consider going with one of our professional quality template-driven packages. We recommend Package 4 for clients who need an extra impressive site and / or want more individualized attention.     Back to Top

Q. Is it possible to create a bilingual site?

A. Yes! BDI can create a version of your site in a second language. This second version uses the exact same layout as the original version, except the text is changed. Please select a package and read the details.

Q. Can I put both French and English versions on the same page?

A.For Packages 1-3, no we cannot. Because we are offering these packages at such a low rate, we cannot do this, as it is extra work for our web design team. A. Yes! You are to able have a combination of both all French and all English pages.

A. No. Because we are already offering very low rates, we cannot track this.

Q. I need images for my site. Can you help?

A. Yes! We offer an image bank of high quality Mauritius stock photography. Clients pay Rs. 200 for each image they wish to use. As many stock photography sources charge around US $ 50, this is an excellent deal.   Back to Top

Q. If I mail you my photographs, can you send them back to me?

A. No. Materials submitted to build your web site, including photographs, will not be returned.

Q. I found a great picture on another web site. Can I use it on my site?

A. Generally, no. Unless you have the written permission from the artist or photographer who created the image, you may not use it. All images, whether digital or in print, are copyrighted and cannot be used without permission. Using images without the proper legal permissions can violate copyright laws and the policies of Business Development International and NextStepWeb Hosting. Sites that are shut down for such violations are not eligible for a refund.     Back to Top

Q. Can I get a different font besides what you offer?

A. No, only the fonts listed on our site are available for Packages 1 - 3. Additional font choices are only available with Packages 4 and 5.

Q. Can you spell-check / proofread / translate my text for me?

A. For Packages 1 - 3 , no. BDI only offers these services for clients purchasing Packages 4 or 5.     Back to Top

Q. What if I want to update or modify my site in the future?

A. BDI offers web site maintenance. Our update fees are based upon the amount of work required to implement each update. If clients wish to maintain their own web site and have FTP access to the site, they must purchase Hosting Solution #1.

Q. After you create my site, will I get a chance to review it?

A. Yes! For clients purchasing Packages 1 – 3, we will notify the client once the site is ready for the client to review it. Once you are notified, you will have two weeks to review your site and request modifications. Any modification requested after the two week period will be billed as a site update.     Back to Top

Q. If there are any changes needed when I review my site, how do I let you know?

A. All requested modifications must be sent to us by email. Please do not call our office to request changes.

Q. Can I print my text and mail it to you?

A. No. We must receive your text in electronic form, either by emailing it to us or by sending it to us on diskette or CD. This saves us from retyping the text and ensures that the exact text you sent is what will appear on your web site.     Back to Top

Q. Can I have my text in multiple colours?

A. No. Text colour must be the same throughout the web site. However, it is possible for you to change the colour of the text. By default, most sites are created with black text, but you may request another colour if you wish.

Q. Can I pay in installments?

A. No. Because we already offer extremely low prices, we must ask that clients pay up front.

Q. What is an external link?

A. An external link is a word or phrase in your text that can be "clicked on" and that takes the person viewing your web site to another web site. Sometimes external links are kept together as a list of names of places or things that take you to web sites related to those words.

For example, the phrase ‘worldwide news’ could link to the site www.news.bbc.co.uk

External links might lead to web sites that are related to your business, to sites that offer information that would be helpful to your own site visitors, to sites done by the manufacturer of products you sell, etc. External links can be to just about anything.
